EXCLUSIVE: Bubblegum Crisis and Riding Bean licensed by MVM

Written by Ross Locksley on 09 Jan 2025

MVM have confirmed that they have licensed two classic anime series from their past - the classic Bubblegum Crisis series and the Riding bean OVA.

Bubblegum Crisis was the very first anime licensed by MVM on VHS when the company started (even the ID number for the series was 0001) so it's great to see the anime come home.

Bubblegum Crisis

Bubblegum Crisis uses the new latest MediaOCD masters and will come in collectors packaging. The 50 page booklet with a new interview from Kenichi Sonoda has yet to be confirmed, but we're assured extra goodies will be slipped in with the set!

Confirmed so far:

  • All 8 episodes with lossless English and Japanese audio
  • Music video specials Hurricane Live! 2032 and 2033
  • Voice Actor Concert Special Holiday in Bali
  • Selected music videos remastered in HD

Synopsis:

Mega Tokyo, 2032. The city is recovering from the great Kanto Earthquake, rebuilt largely thanks to the mega corporation Genom and its robotic creations, the Boomers. But when things go wrong and even the AD Police struggle to contain the chaos, the city can rely on the Knight Sabers, a band of 4 female warriors in battle armour that act as the city's hi-tech guardian angels; led by the enigmatic Sylia Stingray, the team comprises rock star Priss Asigiri, dancer Lina Yamazaki and AD Police tech operator Nene Romanova. Classic cyberpunk action from AIC!

Riding Bean

Additionally, Riding Bean makes a return - the story of a courier for hire and his gun-toting partner Rally Vincent, the pair face a nightmare kidnap scenario that leads to high-stakes chases, shoot-outs and all out action! Featuring even more gorgeous design work from Kenichi Sonoda and some incredible animation, this is one to revisit or discover for the first time!

Bonus features: Kenichi Sonoda interview, original trailer, Blu-ray trailer, art gallery.

With a tentative release date of May, it's going to be a great month for retro-anime fans!
