Bandai have teased their latest Gundam series, the unpronounceable Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX looks thematically not too dissimilar from The Witch From Mercury, with the action centered around organised clan battles (shortened to Clan-Bat in the trailer) which comprises 2 on 2 mecha battles with the winner taking the head of the opposing unit (as opposed to the crest in Witch). The series appears to be set on a space colony and involve younger protagonists, with no signs (yet) or any army or government involvement.
The series has quite the Evangelion creative team, with Kazuya Tsurumaki directing, mechanical design by Ikuto Yamashita, series composition by Yoji Enokido, co-production between Studio Khara and Sunrise, with Hideaki Anno contributing to the script alongside Yoji Enokido. The studio Sunrise staff are collectively credited as Hajime Yatate alongside series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. So despite the bright and stylised designs courtesy of Pokemon Sun and Moon artist Take, expect darkness, death and depravity...
Synopsis:
Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space.
When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.
Under the entry name "Machu," she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.
Now their world is about to enter a new era.
Kits are already showing up on sites such as Hobby Link Japan, so we can get a better look at the titular Gundam, which looks like a cross between Iron Blooded Orphans Barbatos and the brighter designs from Build Fighters.
You can keep up to date with the series via the official Gundam GQuuuuuuX website.
