Anime fans have been well served by Metroidvania titles in the last few years, with Overlord and Lodoss being particular standouts. Awaken: Astral Blade looks to be bringing its own twist with an original IP, intriguing graphics and a pretty hard soundtrack. So far, we like what we see.
Developed by Dark Pigeon Games, the title is part of Sony's investment into Chinese gaming companies via their incubator project. Published by ESDigital games, the title will see a digital release on PC and PS5 on October 22nd
Synopsis:
AWAKEN - Astral Blade is a dark Metroidvania side-scrolling action game in which players take on the role of bionic Tania, a clone from the OS-CR100 series created by Dr. Herveus, as she ventures deep into the rainforests in search of a missing team of researchers. Tania's journey truly begins when she uncovers ancient secrets buried deep within the ruins in the forest, leading her to confront the mysteries of her origins and her ultimate destiny.
For those of us in Europe, we also have the option of a special edition physical release courtey of Meridiem. titled the "Tania Edition". This includes a slip case, lore book, soundtrack and sticker, as well as the post release DLC content and special outfits for Tania (including one exclusive to the PS5 edition). This will also be released on October 22nd.
Amazon has the special edition listed for £29.99, just be aware that when we ordered the Overlord special edition, Amazon cancelled the order as they weren't able to secure a copy, so maybe have a backup handy.
Finally, a new trailer has landed to show off the game - the massive bosses look great, and we're looking forward to posting a review in a timely fashion.
