Ah, assault suits, the most Japanese thing since Sushi. On March 21st, Clear River Games have announced that classic run and gun arcade shooter Assault Suit Leynos 2 will be resurrected as Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute, released as part of the Saturn Tribute Series.

For the first time in the West, the game will be available on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, digitally on the 21st of March and physically on the 22nd May.

The game is a 32 bit sequel to the original of the same name in Japan (known as Target Earth in the US) and is also related to the Super NES game Assualts Suits Valken, aka Cybernator from 1992. Basically it's a game with pedigree.

Take a look at the trailer below and see if this is a mecha you want to add to your gaming arsenal:

From the Press Release:

Now fully localised into multiple languages, builds on the winning formula, adding layers of strategy via new systems including multiple, customizable assault suits, a staggering array of imaginative weapons and an auto-aiming difficulty feature that adapts to the skill of the gamer! Finally Western PlayStation and Nintendo gamers can finally experience the epic storytelling and high-octane gameplay made famous by this audacious classic.

In the year 2123 AD, space colonies facing the threat of over population, rebel against orders from Earth, intent on becoming ever more independent. With the political turmoil at an all-time high, the sudden assassination of the Prime Minister of the Zenes federation, plunges the region into all-out war with the neighbouring Republic of Sanraal. Desperate to overcome the odds, the President of Sanraal gives a special order to the 12th Special Assault Suits Squad. Composed of notorious troublemakers and delinquents, the unit commonly known as ‘The 12th SAS’ gets ready to fight the ultimate battle against insurmountable odds.

A hardcore shooter full of bombast and brains, Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute sees gamers select their chosen assault suit and arm themselves with a diverse arsenal of weapons as they navigate through seven challenging stages of mayhem. Tailor your suit's parameters to optimize your performance for success and unlock more powerful weapons (including previously unattainable ones made available due to modern bug fixes!). Choose with care however, as your armament choices influence your field of view, with the camera seamlessly zooming in and out to capture the action. Whether you prefer auto or manual aiming, the choice is yours as you brace yourself for an escalating challenge, with the difficulty level adjusting to spawn increasingly formidable enemies.

The western release of Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute arrives with a host of quality-of-life features designed for a modern audience.

Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute Features:

  • Localised Text - For the first time, gamers can view the text in Spanish, German and French alongside Japanese and English.
  • Rewind your game to correct fatal mistakes.
