Yesterday brought with it a sudden influx of consternation and confusion, as retailer Amazon UK cancelled all pre-orders of the home video release of Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo, via an e-mail stating that "We've been informed Manga Entertainment is not releasing this title".
Needless to say, we looked to Manga Entertainment themselves for clarification, and we've now received the following statement from the distributor:
"We regret to inform you that the scheduled release of Evangelion 3.33 - You Can (Not) Redo has been pushed back indefinitely. We can confirm that Manga Entertainment will still be releasing this title, but at present there is no confirmed release date. We apologise to our fans for this, but unfortunately this delay was unavoidable."
So, in short, Manga Entertainment will still be releasing the title, but we're no closer to knowing when this release will arrive given the hugely troubled gestation of the film's English localisation in the US via FUNimation Entertainment. In other words, nothing has changed despite the stern words of Amazon's e-mail, so we can return to waiting for this anticipated release, albeit without a pre-order "in the bank" for the film.
