Now that the UK anime and manga community has waved goodbye to one of its major events in the form of the sadly-departed Ayacon, it’s worth remembering that there are a number of very popular and large events regularly held abroad. Taking place on the same weekend of July as the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, the Japan Expo in Paris offers a similarly-sized convention that’s a mere flight across (or train underneath) the Channel; a much more practical and affordable proposition than a trip to the US!
Two of the UK Anime team attended last year’s event, but this year I was tempted to see it for myself, with the promise of a relaxing weekend in sunny Paris complete with high-profile guests and displays of culture and entertainment that are unlikely to be seen on this scale in the UK any time soon.
