Dragon Ball Game On!

Written by Kevin Leathers on 04 Nov 2009

In the gaming arena, Dragon Ball seems to be at its height. While the series has not been on TV in many years and the probability of the series making it on to UK DVD becomes slimmer by the day, it is amazing to see the multitude of Dragon Ball games make their way to the UK. Last week saw the release of one Dragon Ball game, with another two planned for the next couple of weeks. So, UKA is going to take a look at all three new Dragon Ball games and tell you what they are all about. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks as UKA reviews all three titles.

Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo (Wii)

The first game to come out of the stable is for the Wii console and is based upon the original Dragon Ball series, which will no doubt please fans. The game is an original story based upon the latter half of the Dragon Ball saga featuring the Red Ribbon Army as well as the evil King Piccolo. The game plays like an old school platformer with combat elements mixed to progress and defeat the many enemies that will appear to stop your progress

The game uses the now commonplace cel-shading technique to give everything a comic look, complete with outlines and bright colours, and even employs written sound effects when you make a move to give it a little bit extra authenticity. Goku himself looks exactly like his series counterpart and is sure to bring back fond memories of the series.

Dragon Ball will also feature a lite RPG element with money called Zeni collected during the course of the adventure. The player will be able to buy new abilities and upgrades to continue the fight. The Wii Remote and Nunchuk can also be used to perform attacks and take out the bad guys.

Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo is out now in the UK for the Wii.
