Don't let the name fool you, there's no figure to build in the package, Juri comes complete with her neo pipe and limbs attached. It's good to see Street Fighter's resident bad-girl getting more merchandise lately, and between this, the Pop Up Parade and upcoming SH Figuarts action figure, it's a good year to be a Juri fan.
This 1/7 scale figure sees the unhinged brawler wrapped around a dislodged neon pole, with an anticipatory grin accompanying a predatory stare. There's no doubt that they've captured the essence of the character here. It's no less than you should expect from an official Capcom product, but nevertheless it's good to see.
The interaction with her base works well for Juri, all evil grin and seductive posing...
The overall sculpt is fantastic, showcasing Juri's lithe form in a way that stands out on the shelf. Details on the hair look good, with all the strands both in her bangs and in the devilish horns she wears catching the light and showcasing the sculpted detail. The main standout is the textures that they've added throughout - her trousers are ribbed, something I hadn't expected but am very pleased to see as it really adds a lot to the overall impression. Likewise her belt has a weave texture that looks wonderful when catching the light. Every tooth of her zips are sculpted in, as are the edges of her top. The pads she wears on her hands and feet have little wrinkles to show the material stretched over the padding and each individual toe is splayed to provide definition.
The base is pretty unique too, the neon pipe held in place by gunmetal coloured fixings, the rubble at her feet surrounded by a pink circle that rounds off the overall colourway with some flair. So all in, I love the sculpt and the presentation. It's also nice that I don't have to attach the figure and risk scratching the paint - everything is in place right out of the box.
The detail at the back of the figure is just as good as the front, it's the sort of statue that benefits from a rotating base
There are some flaws and possible oversights however, all of which involve the paint. Firstly, it's not as sharp as you might like. Some of her green zip teeth have overspray of pink at the base from the trouser piping. Her signature spider tattoo/decoration misses the edges in a few places (only noticeable in the right light) and little areas across the figure make it look like she slipped a millimetre during the application process. I'd say it drags the finish down to prize figure level if I hadn't see so many excellent examples in that arena lately. I do love the weathering on the metal parts though, that's a lovely touch.
Lastly, maybe it's just me, but Juri is hanging on to a lit neon pipe - so why isn't that colour reflected in the paint job? It really divorces the figure from the base and seems like a really odd choice - all it needed was a little pink wash and the whole thing would have gelled beautifully. As it is, my photographs use my Bo-Ling light to create those reflections, so for comparison here's the figure without any lighting:
So, uh, why does the pink neon light cast no reflection on a white surface? Anyone?
Still nice, but it loses something without that reflective element. It seems a curious choice to use a light as a base but to ignore its affect entirely.
Otherwise this is a solid figure - I love the pose, the expression and the overall sense of menace, but it's not worth the £259 after-market price I've been seeing (I paid £117 from HLJ, where she's still in stock incidentally...) It's a good size and creative effort from Capcom with just a little bit of deflation when you start to notice the imperfections. It doesn't scream "premium" the way that Max Factory's Akiman Chun Li does, but it's a worthy statue for Juri fans if you can find it at under £150.
