Winners of the Reddit Anime Awards 2023

Written by Jack Andow on 06 Mar 2024

The r/anime subreddit, which has over 9.3 million subscribers, recently revealed their winners for the eighth edition of their annual awards on the 2nd of March.

The r/anime awards consist of two halves, with there being a jury award, voted on by select members from the r/anime subreddit, who had to apply for the role, and the public award, which is voted on by the general public. The jury voted for BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! as their Anime of the Year, and the public voted for VINLAND SAGA SEASON 2.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s 2nd Season was the show that received the most awards, receiving 6 (5 from the public and 1 from the jury). [Oshi no Ko] was close behind, receiving 5 awards (all from the public). While Heavenly Delusion, and Skip and Loafer both received 4 awards each (2 public 2 jury for Heavenly Delusion, and 1 public 3 jury for Skip and Loafer). Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 and Heavenly Delusion were the only two shows to get a consensus win from both the jury and public, in the action and background art categories respectively.

Nominees for each category are decided in half by the jury and in half by the public. Jury members are required to watch each nomination in a category in full before voting for their winner.

Anime that finished airing in 2023 were eligible for an award, meaning popular shows like Frieren: Beyond Journey's End were not eligible for this year of the awards. Movies were eligible if they received a readily available release, whether that be physical or via streaming services, meaning films that were only in theatres, such as Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron weren’t eligible.

The jury and public winners for each category are as follows:
