Given the recent announcement of a partnership between Crunchyroll and Funimation Entertainment, we were curious to see how other players in the streaming and home video market would respond, and we're beginning to suspect that in Sentai Filmworks' case this means no longer using Crunchyroll to make their simulcast titles available in streaming form.
Having snapped up a number of autumn season series for themselves, thus far these titles have only been announced to stream on the distributors own service, The Anime Network. Nonetheless, most of these titles are arriving with UK availability, so let's see what they have to offer:
Classicaloid - Kanae’s got a two oddball houseguests in her beloved grandmother’s mansion: Moz and Beetho-san. However, these guys, with their crazy antics and supernatural musical powers, claim to be Classicaloid versions of maestros Mozart and Beethoven! Their powerful “mujik” arrangements evoke more than just emotions: they can make the stars fall, spirits dance, or even summon… giant robots? Friend or foe, Kanae is stuck with them, even as more classicaloids begin to invade her life. Will their presence usher in a new musical renaissance in her sleepy town, or will their explosive euphonics cut the standing ovation short?
The series begins on Saturday, 8th October.
Flip Flappers - Cautious Cocona’s world is turned upside down with the sudden appearance of a fearless, though troublesome, girl named Papika. When these two girls meet, their adventures in a different dimension called “Pure Illusion” begin. Together, they go searching for mysterious crystals called “Shards of Mimi,” powerful items which are said to be able to grant any wish. However, in pursuit of these crystals, obstacles arise, and the shards shine enabling them to transform into fairy-like beings.
The series starts on Thursday, 6th October.
Girlish Number - No one wants to get stuck in a boring profession, so when college student Chitose Karasuma storms into a voice acting training facility, she thinks that her future is poised for awesomeness. However, this bad-mannered beauty is in for more than she bargained for as she gets accepted into the talent agency “Number One Produce.” Together with her coworkers, including a girl with a Kansai accent and a cunning airhead, Chitose charges into the competitive world of professional voice acting.
The show begins on Wednesday, 12th October.
Matoi the Sacred Slayer - Matoi Sumeragi works as a part-time shrine maiden at her friend, Yuma’s, family shrine. While Yuma is a trained exorcist and next in line to become the shrine maiden, Matoi is content to pursue a normal life. Unfortunately, “normal life” comes to a crashing halt when she and Yuma find the shrine damaged and Yuma’s parents wounded. Things only escalate as Yuma’s “Divine Possession” ritual aims for, not Yuma, but Matoi, imbuing her with the powers of a god in a fight against evil spirits.
This title starts airing on Tuesday, 4th October.
Alongside these announcements, the service will also be streaming episode 25 of Majestic Prince to the UK on Wednesday, 5th October, and also simulcasting Utano☆Princesama Legend Star alongside Crunchyroll.
