Some small film news updates for you all, and let’s start with Eureka, once again under their Masters of Cinema banner releasing more Kinji Fukasaku goodness, and another of his collaborations with Sonny Chiba, his 1978 chanbara: Shogun’s Samurai. Pre-order in time for its mid-November release.
Radiance have released their monthly slate of films and though disappointingly no Japanese films, they are releasing Kim Soo-yong's Splendid Outing, which is arriving just in time for Christmas, and it sounds an intriguing, dark tale.
The London Film Festival’s programme has been announced and of what little I’ve skimmed perhaps the most interesting (relevant) films are Park Chan-Wook's No Other Choice; an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s A Pale View of the Hills; and, finally, the animated film, ChaO. Nevertheless, the full list of films is available here.
It would also be remiss of me not to note that the BFI Southbank are just kicking off their season of Anna May Wong films, the pioneering and brilliant Chinese-American star, whose career was derailed (to put it politely) by the Hayes Code - nevertheless, this gives us an opportunity to see her in her sometimes silent, sometimes spoken, glory.
Long-time anime dilettante and general lover of cinema. Obsessive re-watcher of 'stuff'. Has issues with dubs. Will go off on tangents about other things that no one else cares about but is sadly passionate about. (Also, parentheses come as standard.) Looks curiously like Jo Shishido, hamster cheeks and all.
