If anyone needs a late Christmas present, then the new year will bring us a lovely Seijun Suzuki release from Radiance that contains his 1958 thriller, Underworld Beauty and an intriguing event, his 1959 short film Love Letter. The Blu Ray will be released on January 27th for £17.99.
Being a huge fan of Suzuki this is good news.
Want to know more, then read on:
UNDERWORLD BEAUTY
When Miyamoto, a thief, retrieves diamonds from a previous heist, he finds himself caught up in a lethal web of crime lords, gangsters, and the scheming boyfriend of his new partner-in-crime, Akiko. This early-noir from Suziki is a playful, inventive take on genre and gender norms.
LOVE LETTER
A nightclub manager is in love with his pianist. However, she has a ranger boyfriend who's been permanently stationed in the mountain wilderness. Their only communication is by letter. As time passes the correspondence slows to a trickle. Then nothing. The manager persuades the girl to visit the boy.
Synopses shamelessly 'borrowed' from Radiance (Underworld Beauty) and IMDB (Love Letter).
Snag your copies directly from Radiance if you dare.
Long-time anime dilettante and general lover of cinema. Obsessive re-watcher of 'stuff'. Has issues with dubs. Will go off on tangents about other things that no one else cares about but is sadly passionate about. (Also, parentheses come as standard.) Looks curiously like Jo Shishido, hamster cheeks and all.
