Second season of My Happy Marriage to air globally January 2025

Kadokawa has announced that the second season of My Happy Marriage will stream via Netflix (and others) globally in January 2025. We loved the first season which we reviewed back in September 2023, where we concluded that he series was "A moving insight into overcoming depression and anxiety through patience and understanding".

A mix of fairytale princess and supernatural mythology, the series takes place in an alternate history and follows the journey of gifted but ostracised Miyo Saimori and the aloof military officer who rescued her from an oppressive family named Kiyoka Kudo.

The press release for the second series promises a fresh direction for the series - "However, the appearance of the new characters brings about a turn of events, so please do pay attention to the second season".

About My Happy Marriage (from the Press Release):

A unique Cinderella story woven by “love” and “supernatural abilities”.

The second season of the TV anime that gave “My Happy Marriage” its unshakable popularity is about to begin.

Based on the novel written by Akumi Agitogi and illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukioka which began publication in 2019, “My Happy Marriage” is a title that has sold a total of over 9 million copies (as of September 2024 / including comics and e-books) and has become a story loved by many through various media.

The manga adaptation (illustrated by Rito Kosaka) has dominated numerous rankings, including first place in the “2021 Recommended Comics Chosen by Nationwide Sales Clerks” award. The live-action film (directed by Ayuko Tsukahara) starred a cast of today's hottest actors and was a smash hit, grossing over 2.8 billion yen at the box office. The stage version (written and directed by Kaori Miura) was well-received for its brilliant action and original story focusing on the Special Unit. And then, as soon as the TV anime aired from July to September 2023, its beautiful vividly colored images, dramatic music and the true-to-life performances of its talented voice actors created a frenzy; it was highly acclaimed not only in Japan but also abroad, cementing the popularity of “My Happy Marriage”.

In January 2025, the second season of the TV anime will finally be aired. Like the first season, the second season is produced by Kinema citrus, that also worked on “Made in Abyss”, “The Rising of the Shield Hero”, “Revue Starlight” series any many others. Director Takehiro Kubota, who is active in a wide range of genres, from producing music videos to anime with an edgy perspective, such as “Gloomy the Naughty Grizzly” (director) and “ID:INVADED” (assistant director) is joined by Masayuki Kojima, director of “Forest of Piano”, “Made in Abyss” and many other works in his 40-year career, to depict even more complex human entanglements and the increasingly intense “supernatural ability” battles.

The first season saw a moving change, where Miyo, a girl lacking in self-confidence due to the oppression she faced from her stepmother and sister while growing up, touched the heart of an aloof military elite, Kiyoka Kudo, with her sincerity; and in turn, began to face herself after having turned a blind eye to her own self for so long. In the second season, the battle over the “blood of the Usuba” that flows through Miyo enters a new phase, with their love put to the test. Will these two be able to fully protect the happiness they have finally grasped in their hands?
