According to Mainichi Japan, Hayao Miyazaki's 1983 graphic novel, Shuna's Journey, will be released for the first time in the United States. The book will be published by First Second, an imprint of Macmillan, and translated by Alex Dudok de Wit.

Elements of the work were later expanded on by films Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Editorial and creative director of First Second, Mark Siegel, issued the following statement:

"Fans of 'Princess Mononoke' and 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind' -- there are millions of us -- will delight in finding early hints of these masterworks in gorgeous watercolor pages by Miyazaki's own hand"

Hayao Miyazaki, 81, is an Oscar-winning director for best animated feature with his film Spirited Away. He was nominated again in 2013 for The Wind Rises.

Shuna's Journey will be released on November 1st.
