The 1984 revenge thriller from Toshiharu Ikeda, Mermaid Legend, will be given a limited UK theatrical run in Leeds, Manchester and London from the end of the month. This is the very first time the cult classic exploitation film has been screened outside of its native Japan, nor has it been released internationally.
Synopsis:
After a woman is framed for the murder of her fisherman husband, she seeks out a bloody revenge on the corrupt businessmen responsible.
Elemental and mythic, Mermaid Legend exudes a lyrical melancholia for the dying way of life of seafaring fishermen and ama divers. Set in a coastal fishing hamlet, Toshiharu Ikeda’s eco thriller finds the incursive grasp of industrialization and corporate greed encroaching on natural realms.
