The existence of Kizumonogatari has become something of a running joke within anime fandom - the prequel film to Bakemonogatari was first announced in 2011, but has since disappeared without a trace in spite of murmurings of a release over recent years.
Well, it seems that 2016 is the year that will finally see this film project come to fruition, and what's more it's scheduled to happen over the course of not one, not two, but three films. The film series will start on January 8th in Japan, with the theatrical release of the first movie, Tekketsu-hen, followed at unspecified future dates by Nekketsu-hen and Reiketsu-hen.
The first film, whose trailer you can see below, is directed by Tatsuya Oishi, with Akiyuki Shinbo serving as chief director.
Nisio Isin's original Kizumonogatari light novel is currently scheduled for an English release later this year courtesy of Vertical Inc.
