Modus games have announced the release date for Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragon for July 27th on PC and consoles, and it's now available to pre-order.

Based on the hit Double Dragon franchise originally created by Technōs Japan and released in 1987, Modus have modernised the formula for a new generation.

With 4 characters to choose from initially, this expands to 13 when you earn tokens to unlock each new brawler, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Use tag-team tactics by selecting 2 characters and then tear through the city switching fighters to take advantage of their unique skills.

The dynamic mission and selection functions add an element of roguelike mechanics to proceedings, with mission length, number of enemies and overall difficulty all being determined by the order in which you select your missions.

The physical edition will include a Double Dragon Gaiden Poster with art  by David Liu and a Double Dragon Gaiden Character sticker sheet.

Synopsis:

It's the year 199X, and nuclear war has devastated New York City leaving its citizens to fight for survival as riots and crime engulf the streets. The city has been overtaken by criminal gangs who terrorize its ruins as they fight for total dominance. Unwilling to endure these conditions any longer, young Billy and Jimmy Lee take it upon themselves to drive the gangs out of their city.
