The Megahouse G.E.M. series of figures feature popular characters in sitting or relaxed poses that can fit in the palm of your hand, which is a nice way to have them posed on the shelf. As a self-confessed Gundam Witch from Mercury fan (despite the series many narrative flaws) I really wanted to see how ditzy series lead Suletta Mercury, and mercurial rich-girl Miorine Rembram suited the line.
The good news is that these are very cool little figures, perfectly formed and nicely sculpted, with very few visible connection lines between pieces and logical design choices added throughout.
With Suletta in a pensive seated position, and Miorine in a more relaxed laying position, the two look suitably distinct and characterful.
Of the two, I'm more drawn to Miorine - the wistful feet-up pose is very endearing, and I love that the sculpt is completely flat underneath while retaining the details of her clothes - as a palm figure, she's very tactile for this reason and I really like the way her hair splays out when it hits the ground alongside her. Fabric details are suitably wrinkled (including the signature line in her tights) and catch the light in a really attractive manner thanks to a semi-gloss sheen, which really draws the eye. If I have any complaints here, it's just that she looks a bit too happy for a character who was often haughty of dour depending on the situation, and while I like to see her happy, it does seem a little out of character.
Suletta, by contrast, looks suitably nervous. Holding her knees and her feet crossed, she's all worried actions that suits her self-doubt and wide-eyed nature perfectly - our favorite space tanuki looks as though she was pulled right out of the screen. Dressed in the champion's colours of white and gold, the uniform's brighter hue perfectly compliments Miorine's standard issue student uniform.
You may have guessed from the photos, but I've been working away from home this week, visiting family on the coast. The portable nature of the figures made them an easy choice to pick up and bring along, fitting in seamlessly with whichever environment I stumbled across to plop them into. As a couple of inexpensive and nicely sculpted figures, you could certainly do far worse than these adorable little figures.
Better yet, there are many more characters from the show available, including most of the male cast. Now, if only they'd do the Witches from Earth - where's my Sophie?
