Disney announces Star Wars Visions anime

10 studios will add an anime spin to the Star Wars mythos

As part of Disney's Investor Call, where a slew of new Star Wars projects have been announced (including an Ahsoka series, the return of Hayden Christanson as Darth Vader and many more) Kathleen Kennedy announced the anime project, Star Wars Visions.

The official Star Wars twitter account made the following statement:

"Star Wars: Visions, an Original Series of animated short films, celebrates the @StarWars galaxy through the lens of the world’s best Japanese anime creators. Coming in 2021 to @DisneyPlus."

Older anime fans may remember a similar project for The Matrix, entitled "The Animatrix", which featured 9 short films from studios such as Square Pictures, Studio 4°C, and directors such as Mahiro Maeda (who contributed animated sequences for Kill Bill and designed 2 of the Angels for Evangelion) and Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop).

If Disney can sign up talent anywhere near as good, this should be a winner.
