Cardfight Vanguard New Series and play format

Written by Ross Locksley on 15 Mar 2018

Bushiroad has announced a brand new series of the Cardfight! Vanguard anime will begin streaming on Youtube from May 5th. The series will bring back original protagonists Aich and Kai, along with other popular characters from the franchise such as Misaki Tokura and Ren Suzugamori.

The May 5th release will be in Japanese with English subtitles, with an English dub version to follow "subsequently".

In terms of the card game on which the anime is based, the game is seeing a split into Standard and Premium versions.

The "Standard" format will only allow cards from the new season onwards - this appears to be a strategy to provide a fresh jumping on point for new players.

Premium format games will include all existing cards in order to provide depth and variety.

Both standards will be given equal support by Bushiroad, with tournaments for both at the Bushiroad Championship Series in 2018. In addition, two new abilities will be added to the game, entitled "Front Trigger" and "Imaginary Gift".

A new line of products will be launched in June 2018, though specifics are not forthcoming at this stage.

Lastly, 2 new projects are in development; the first is an anime based on the Bermuda Triangle Mermaid deck (coincidentally, this is Editor-In_chief Ross' favourite deck!) and a mobile game currently titled "Vanguard Zero" is in production.

Phew!
