After the Ayacon madness and all the new news there is to talk about over and done with for a while, we're left to wonder what else we can hope to see for the rest of the year in terms of anime releases. You, like us, can’t peer into the minds of the UK distributors no matter how hard we torture them, their secrets just won’t be revealed. So, to ease our pains a little we at UK Anime have come up with our wishlist, in conjunction with a poll on the UKA forum, of releases we'd love to see hit the UK DVD market.
Macross Frontier
Summary
The latest instalment in the Macross saga is proof positive that this franchise can still hit new heights, despite the original show having been with us for over 25 years. The latest series continues within the same timeline as previous Macross stories as we follow Alto, Ranka and Sheryl aboard the 25th New Macross-class Colonial Fleet, dubbed the Macross Frontier. We would sell our souls, families and next of kin to own this series on Blu-Ray - A mixture of spell-binding music, animation and a fantastic story is sure to make most anime fans happy. Just hope you like your J-Pop by the bucket load.
Probability of UK release: 30%
Why such a low probability? It has everything; big robots, pretty girls, fantastic plot, awesome music... did we mention the girls? But alas Macross is a hard series to license due to the stranglehold the US company Harmony Gold holds on their Robotech adaptation of Macross mixed with two other series. Unless a deal can be struck with Harmony Gold, don’t expect this one to hit western shores too soon.
Eden of the East
Summary
From Kenji “Stand Alone Complex” Kamiyama, Eden of the East is Production I.G’s latest attempt at topping their take on Ghost in the Shell. By looking at it, it seems like they've come damn close. Missile attacks, naked men waving guns in front of the White House and the world’s most fully functional phone, what could there not be to love.
Probability of UK release: 90%
While there might be some reason it won’t get released, it seems highly likely that we’ll see this in the UK during 2010. After the success of Stand Alone Complex we’d be hard pressed to think of a reason not to release this.
