Summer 2017 anime preview - Page 6

Youkoso Jitsuroku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e

Official web site

At Koudo Ikusei Senior High, the students have an incredible student life... as long as they're the top students, that is. The rest, like Kiyotaka, have a much less pleasant experience in D class, but thanks to some new friends his school life could be about to change.

Should I watch it? This kind of plot is attempted so often and its so rarely done well that nice character designs aside I can't really see there being anything new here that would make it worth your while. Even the trailer is pretty bland.

Summer 2017 theatrical films

(aka the "Scotland Loves Anime needs this" section)

With theatrical anime on the rise in recent years, there's been some worry going around this year in particular that the UK's biggest and best venue for the premiering of new anime films might be wanting for new material that wasn't just a reissue of a film that screened earlier in the year - so, to allay these fears, here's our pick of the films that Scotland Loves Anime should be looking to grab up from this season's selection.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen Prologue

Official web site

Okay, so this is a bit of a cheat as it's the OVA prequel to the new series that's coming next year, but if it's good enough for Anime Expo in the United States then it's good enough for UK fans to see it too. CLAMP's most beloved work has been too long from UK shores so it's high time for it to return, perhaps with a few classic episodes or the original movie to bump up the running time?

Kimi no Koe wo Todoketai

Official web site

Madhouse's new film about a girl who becomes a DJ after wandering into an abandoned radio station sould fascinating and looks like a great little romance/drama that would feel right at home at Scotland Love Anime.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Reflection

Official web site

This is super wishful thinking on my part here, but they played the Love Live movie two years ago so there's still a chance that SLA could see one of the best magical girl shows hit the UK in a big way, especially with Amazon Prime having finally allowed people to watch the show in streaming form.

Mary and the Witch's Flower

Official web site

If we had to name one film that should almost certainly turn up at SLA then it would be this one, as young Mary is catapulted into an adventure of magic and mystery all brought you you by a staff who were former workers at Studio Ghibli. It looks like its going to be fantastic and we can't wait to see if we'll get a chance to watch it.

Dan first encountered anime at the ripe old age of six with a VHS copy of Laputa. Ten years later he re-discovered it in Robotech and overnight a DVD collection was born.
