UK Anime Network Reviews

The lowdown on the best anime, manga, games, toys and other cool stuff!
Anime Reviews
  • Tsuritama - Eps. 1-4

  • Its colourful presentation and some well-written characters show plenty of potential, but conversely its flaws and inability to really grab the viewer work significantly against it at this point.

  • Kids on the Slope - Eps. 1-4

  • Visually sumptuous, intelligent and beautifully delivered, Kids on the Slope looks set to raise the bar for anime of its ilk.

  • Bleach: Series 8 Part 2

  • An improvement over the first half of the series which ups the pace and provides some important plot progression, despite incessantly falling into certain bad habits.

10 = No collection is complete without this title

9 = Near perfect, with some minor niggles

8 = Very good, but has one major issue

7 = Good, but has a couple of issues

6 = Above average

5 = Average. Not bad, but nothing revolutionary here

4 = Below average. Passable but not great. Wait for the sales

3 = Poor, usually few if any redeeming features

2 = Awful

1 = Disaster. Someone must pay!

Manga Reviews
  • Highschool of the Dead Vol. 6

  • A good volume of the series, made all the more valuable by some great additional content.

  • Toradora! Vol. 4

  • Another great instalment of comedy and smatterings of romantic drama that is paced and illustrated almost to perfection.

  • PoyoPoyo's Observation Diary Vol. 1

  • A nice accompaniment to the currently streaming TV series, and a definite source of mirth for cat owners.

  • Durarara!! Vol. 2

  • Another well-presented slice of Ikebukuro life, carried largely by its fantastically colourful roster of characters.

Stuff Reviews

Saint Seiya Sanctuary Battle (PS3)

It won't rock your world, despite the glam 80's styling, but Seiya is a solid and unusual brawler that's worth checking out.

Cherry Tree High Comedy Club (PC)

A proficient, if americanised, translation of a title which only occasionally manages to break out and have fun with its concept and characters.

Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (PS Vita)

Almost endless, Disgaea 3 really is an entire world at your fingertips. If you own a Vita, you need this game.

Miku Flick (iOS)

A beautifully presented, well thought-out and fun introduction to Vocaloid rhythm games on iOS - if only it wasn't so expensive.
