Seven Seas launch tabletop games division, unveils Space Dandy Kickstarter project

It's been an interesting twenty-four hours for manga publisher Seven Seas Entertainment - or should we say, manga and tabletop game publisher Seven Seas.

Yesterday, the company announced the formation of Seven Seas Games, a tabletop games division with an eye towards creating properties based around popular anime and manga titles.

With that in mind, today the company has unveiled their first Kickstarter project for just such a tabletop game based upon Studio BONES' Space Dandy franchise. More specifically, the campaign pertains to Space Dandy: Galactic Deck-Building - here's a little more on the game:

The Space Dandy: Galactic Deck-Building Game brings the bizarre space-faring antics of the hit anime series seen on ADULT SWIM™ TOONAMI™ to the game table. It's similar to other Deck-Builders like Dominion and Ascension—with an extra helping of phantom space ramen goodness. Each player begins the game with the same rather low-powered starting cards, but through careful play, you can acquire more to expand your options. Which cards you choose to take directly influence the kind of game you play!

Unfortunately for us, the campaign is only open to backers in North, Central and South America, but you can find full details of the crowd-funding project, which looks to raise $12,000 for its creation, on its official Kickstarter page.

Meanwhile, if you want to know more about Seven Seas Games, here's the press release:

(LOS ANGELES, March 3, 2015) – Seven Seas Entertainment is delighted to announce the launch of its all-new tabletop games division, Seven Seas Games. Combining its passion and expertise in the manga and anime fields with the ability to create high quality original products, Seven Seas Games will meld the anime aesthetic with strategic card and board games, introducing fans to a whole new way of experiencing their favorite titles.

From deck-building card games to strategic board games, to games incorporating miniature figures, Seven Seas Games will offer a wide variety of exciting new games based on popular anime properties, and original titles as well.

“Both manga and board games are cited as two areas of tremendous growth in the publishing industry,” says Seven Seas President Jason DeAngelis, “We’ve decided to combine both, appealing to manga and anime fans as well as gamers in a whole new way.”

Upcoming games released by Seven Seas Games will be available for purchase through a variety of retailers and distribution outlets starting in late 2015.

Seven Seas Games will announce its first game on March 4, 2015.
