Netflix to create 30 new anime series

Written by Ross Locksley on 17 Oct 2017

The Verge has reported on a statement from online media giant Netflix that states they are looking to invest in 30 new anime shows for 2018.

Netflix has dipped a toe in the anime waters with shows such as Blame, Castlevania, Ajin: Demi Human and Knights of Sidonia among others, and has clearly seen enough potential to use part of an $8 billion dollar budget for programming to green-light a slew of new shows.

The anime industry in general is a hard place to gain ground in recent times, with only a handful of shows each season going on to become hits, so doubtless this foreign investment will be welcomed by the industry in Japan.

Back in August, Dan Barnett reported on 7 new titles coming from Netflix, so an additional 23 titles is a huge upscale from that original position.

New titles announced include;

  • B: The Beginning (Production I.G.)
  • DEVILMAN Crybaby (Science Saru)
  • Cannon Busters (Satelight)
  • Rilakkuma (Dwarf Studio)
