It seems like forever ago that we reported on the star studded (and predominantly British) cast lined up for Studio Ponoc's debut The Witch's Flower, though it's even longer ago that we reported the news that the film had been picked up by Altitude Film Entertainment for UK release. So it's with great excitement that we can report the studio have released the first English trailer for the film.
As our regular readers may well recall, Studio Ponoc is a new studio founded by Studio Ghibli alumni Yoshiaki Nishimura, who worked as a producer on titles such as The Tale of Princess Kaguya and When Marnie Was There. The new studio's first film - Mary and the Witch's Flower - is adapted from a British children's novel by Mary Stewart: The Littlest Broomstick, which tells the tale of a girl who discovers a flower that grants magical powers, but only for one night.
Synopsis: It is Tib the black cat who leads Mary to the strange flower in the woods. When she discovers a little broomstick shortly afterwards, she is astonished to feel it jump in to action. Before she can gather her wits, it is whisking her over the treetops, above the clouds, and in to the grounds of Endor College, where: 'All Examinations Coached for by A Competent Staff of Fully-Qualified Witches.'
