Macross 35th Anniversary plans announced

Shoji Kawamori has announced the title and release details of the next film in the Macross franchise in time for the 35th anniversary. As expected, this will be a Macross Delta redux (predicted way back in our podcast actually) with a re-jigged timeline and improved fight sequences.

Previous film versions of Macross series have been a mixed bag (Macross, Macross Plus and Frontier have received similar treatment) so time will tell as to just how faithful this film will be to the original series.

Gekijō-ban Macross Delta: Gekijō no Walkūre (Macross Delta the Movie: Passionate Walkūre) will hit Japanese theatres on February 9th.

Other projects to coincide with the anniversary will include toy projects, a planetarium & museum exhibit (possibly similar to the Gundam Museum at Odaiba). We already know about the Hi Metal R 35th Anniversary Valyrie VF-1S decorated in the colours of Delta's ace pilot Messer Ihlefeld and a Chogokin update of Hayate's 31C Valkyrie with gunpods and Messer's symbol. We're sure that will be the tip of the iceburg!

Walkūre have also announced concert dates for February 24th and 25th at the Yokohama Arena.

Tokyo Skytree will also have a collaboration with the anime - whether this will be Delta or the new series announced for 2018 is yet to be confirmed.
