It may not be talked about in quite the same hushed tones as the likes of Akira, but Madhouse's 2001 film Metropolis is still a notable anime movie. Based loosely on a 1949 manga by Osamu Tezuka, which was in turn inspired by Fritz Lang's legendary film, this movie boasts a script penned by Katsuhiro Otomo and direction from Rintaro.
If you haven't seen the film, or want an opportunity to see it again, then the good news is that distributor Eureka Entertainment will be releasing Metropolis in the UK on home video in the near future, with plans afoot to release the film as a dual-format DVD/Blu-ray combo pack, marking the first time the movie has made it to our shores in High Definition.
There's no exact news as to a release date or contents for the release as yet, but you can find the announcement on the distributor's Facebook page.
