Anime Limited acquire Violet Evergarden

Written by D. R. on 25 Oct 2017

In a somewhat odd licence announcement Anime Limited have confirmed that they have acquired Kyoto Animation's Violet Evergarden, by announcing they are to screen the first episode at MCM London Comic Con. The UK premiere screening of the first episode will take place on the Saturday of the event (28th October 2017) at 13:30 (1:30pm) in the "Platinum Theatre". The screening will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles.

The series itself won't actually start airing in Japan until early year, though western audiences will be able to catch it on Netflix sometime later. As is usually the case with Netflix, this is likely to mean the entire series being released at once sometime in 2018. Though given the series' timeline for streaming don't expect to hear more details of the Anime Limited release for a while.

Violet Evergarden is produced by Kyoto Animation (A Silent Voice, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Hyouka) and directed by Taichi Ichidate (director of Beyond the Boundary and episode director on Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid, K-On!, Clannad). The series is based on a novel by Kana Akatsuki and features Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa in Attack on Titan) as the titular Violet Evergarden.

Synopsis

“A certain point in time, in the continent of Telesis. The great war which divided the continent into North and South has ended after four years, and the people are welcoming a new generation. Violet Evergarden, a young girl formerly known as “the weapon”, has left the battlefield to start a new life at CH Postal Service. There, she is deeply moved by the work of “Auto Memories Dolls”, who carry people’s thoughts and convert them into words. Violet begins her journey as an Auto Memories Doll, and comes face to face with various people’s emotions and differing shapes of love.

There are words Violet heard on the battlefield, which she cannot forget. These words were given to her by someone she holds dear, more than anyone else. She does not yet know their meaning but she searches to find it.”
