Do you ever do meetings nearer up north? I'm a tiny bit interested but it's a pretty big jump staying 2 days without really knowing many people.

Aye. Quite a lot. If there are events on, such as Doki Doki in Manchester, Yorkshire Cosplay Con in Sheffield, Thoughtbubble in Leeds. We also do small meetups for shopping (as there are quite a few of us in W Yorkshire)

Come along! :) We all started out that way, we have new folks come every year and most keep coming back so we can't be too bad :).

Not far enough North for me, generally. :(

Where abouts do you live (general area)

Pretty easy to get to Matlock (via Derby if you're on the train) and getting tickets now can be pretty cheap.

Alternatively if you can get to the Manchester area I can give you a fun* drive down

*some may disagree with the term "fun"

Yeah, but usually stuff happens in Glasgow or Edinburgh. That's still four hours south for me. :/

Although I met some nutter at Kitacon once who'd come from Benbecula. That was dedication.

That's about two hours by car, three by public transport... Believe it or not that's on the shorter end of the commutes. We have people coming from Brighton and Scotland. :)

That's not too bad then, if I come I'll probably take you up on the offer necro.

I noticed it clashes with college on the monday, but I should be able to put in the work to catch up on that without much issue. I'm generally pretty introverted which is my main hesitation.

Also, is the place within walking distance from the closest train station?

The venue is shockingly close to Matlock Bath Train Station. We were all very surprised by this last year. It's about a 5-10 minute walk on a straight road from the station

Ten minutes walk. The road out of town is busy so just be careful when you cross it. The walk through to Matlock itself is just over half an hour.

Both of what applies to Andy :)

Hes gone from one extreme to the other. I also guess I won't be getting a lift back this year unless I want to end up the middle of nowhere :)

Sorry to keep asking so many questions, but what do you all normally bring? And are there any shops near, so I can work out any extra costs of buying stuff while I'm down there.

Normally just holiday type stuff (Clothes/washstuff)

And things to keep yourself busy when its quiet (I usually bring the laptop and Manga)

    ---

Pretty sure there is a small shop in Matlock Bath

Sainsburys is a few min trip via train or a short walk (30~ mins) down the road.

Only problem with train is it departs Matlock every hour, so you have about an hour to get shopping, or two hours) ;)

It's a tourist trappy sort of town, but there's a little shop down the road as well as your standard pubs/restaurants/cafes.

I think there's a bigger shop if you go towards Cromford, but I never walked that way.
