Winter 2018 anime preview

Koi wa Ameagari no You ni

Japanese Air Date: January 2018 - http://www.koiame-anime.com/

Synopsis: Akira - a former track star stricken by injury - finds herself falling in love with the, much older, manager at her part time job.

Should I watch this? The sysopsis isn’t all that thrilling, if we’re honest. Although there's certainly a lot of potential for drama to be milked from the concept. The real draw here is going to be the animation - from Studio Wit - and the soundtrack. Both of which look great!

Kokkoku

Japanese Air Date: 7th January 2018 - http://kokkoku-anime.com/

Synopsis: When Juri’s nephew and brother are kidnapped she’s left with no time to gather the funds for the ransom. As she rushes to the rescue her father produces a family secret - and grants her the power to stop time - as they work to find their family. Though Juri soon realises they aren’t the only ones with powers...

Should I watch this? Oh my yes! This looks fantastic. The concept is really cool and looks like it's going to be used in some interesting ways. Also the huge tree monster is crazy! This is definitely going to be worth checking out.

MIIra no Kaikata

Japanese Air Date: January 2018 - http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/miira/

Synopsis: When Sora recieves a huge package, from his adventuring Father, he has no idea what to expect. He certainly wasn’t expecting a tiny mummy that can fit into the palm of his hand!

Should I watch this? At the moment it looks like this is going the oddball comedy route - and that could be fun - but there's honestly not enough here to properly judge. At a guess I’d lean towards it being pretty fun but ultimately forgettable. Somehow I don’t think that either Brendan Fraser or Tom Cruise would have felt all that threatened by a mummy which was only a few inches high...

Mitsuboshi Colors

Japanese Air Date: January 2018 - http://mitsuboshi-anime.com/

Synopsis: Three young girls, of the "Colors" organisation, are friends who seek to protect their city by playing games, hanging out, and generally running afoul of Saitou, the local police officer.

Should I watch this? This is likely to be a pretty fun show, which is relaxing and funny, without really pushing any boundaries. It feels like it has a bit of a Strawberry Marshmallow sort of vibe. Could definitely be worth a look.

Märchen Mädchen

Japanese Air Date: January 2018 - http://maerchen-anime.com/

Synopsis: Young Hazuki finds that her school library holds an entrance into a magical realm, where ancient stories and fairy tales train students to become magical girls!

Should I watch this? If we have to have another 'trapped in a magical world' show this season then at least this one is trying to present us with a more unique concept. And it’s probably worth a look over most of the others for that alone!
